Vermont Spring Book & Paper Fair Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Despite changes in the antiquarian markets and the rise of the internet, the Vermont Antiquarian Booksellers Association still runs its spring fair. The fair has changed, but is still popular with Vermont and upstate New York bibliophiles who know they’ll find both wonderful books and some knowledgeable booksellers to discuss them with.

This year’s fair is April 21st in St Albans City Hall, a beautiful historic location right in the the city that Yankee Magazine just named one of the best places to live. In the middle of downtown and within walking distance of several good restaurants to recharge your energy after a morning of book browsing, St Albans is an ideal location for an antiquarian book fair.

J Kevin Graffagnino will be offering free book appraisals from 11am to1pm at the fair. Kevin was curator of Vermont history at the University of Vermont library, head of Special Collections, and later director of the William L Clements Library in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Now retired, he has returned to Vermont and rejoined VABA as an appraiser and consultant.

Local authors will also be making an appearance, as the St Albans Community Arts Group will be sponsoring several book signings. Also, local bookbinder Carol Ceraldi of Graham Hill Bindery in Craftsbury will be demonstrating book binding techniques and discussing book repairs and restoration.

At present, booksellers who will be exhibiting include The Eloquent Page - new, used & rare books of St Albans, Back Door Antiques of Middlebury, Laureate Fine Books of Poultney, Catamount Books of Arlington, Otter Creek Books of Middlebury, Speaking Volumes of Burlington, Graham Hill Bindery of Craftsbury, North Country Books of Milton, J. Kevin Gragffagnino of Essex, Seasoned Books & Bakery

The Vermont Spring Antiquarian Book Fair is the avid bookhunter's perfect excuse for a spring road trip. For more information, call (802) 527-7243.
