Addison & Sarova's May 24 Sale Preview

Addison & Sarova Auctioneers will be holding a live auction of "Rare Bibles, Ecclesiastical History, Theology (including Americana) on May 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. (Eastern). Bidding will also be available online.

In a summary of the offerings, owners Michael Addison & Layla Sarova commented "freighted with saints and heretics, sermons and schisms, no history has produced greater controversy or consequence than that of the Church. Spanning over five centuries, the works in this sale trace the major contours of church history. With an early manuscript appearance (ca. late 13th c.) of Aquinas’ Office of the Feast of Corpus Christi, Reformation landmarks such as Erasmus’ New Testament, and Protestant mainstays like Foxe’s Book of Martyrs, this sale is certain to appeal to a variety of collectors. From venerated nuns cloistered in Mexico, to the exceptional Baptist oratory of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, a rich and varied catalogue awaits your perusal.

While centered on religious works, this sale also includes items of broader interest to collectors of Americana, including colonial Mexican imprints, American publications such as the first book printed in West Virginia, and Increase Mather’s copy of Owen’s Certaine Treatises. Several Mexican titles reflect the distinctively Catholic culture of New Spain, offering a compelling contrast to the predominantly Protestant traditions just to the north in Anglo-America. These items offer valuable insight into the intellectual, cultural, and printing history of the colonial Americas, making them relevant well beyond the strictly theological sphere."

For more information, call contact Addison & Sarova at (478) 787-2665 or 291 North Cherokee Road, Social Circle, GA. The catalogue of  Sale 1059 is presently online for preview.
